Community Programs
Bloom Community Health
Texas and Louisiana, my home states, are at the bottom of the list for providing safe maternal care in the United States. Families that are experiencing food and housing insecurity, and/or financial uncertainties are often overlooked in our health system. Bloom Community Health, created in 2020 during the height of the COVID 19 pandemic, is a fiscally sponsored health initiative created specifically to help under-resourced Black and Brown pregnant and postpartum families. Families receive free preconception counseling, pregnancy education, postpartum support, new parent essentials and hygiene items. Bloom Community Health supports the perinatal needs of under-resourced (ie. teen, unhoused and incarcerated) mothers so they may survive, thrive and BLOOM, as well. For more information about the Black maternal health crisis visit Black Mamas Matters.
Bloom Period
Period poverty is the lack of access to period products and education causing physical, mental and emotional challenges. Over 500 MILLION people in the US do not have access to menstrual products*. This sucks and we want to help. In 2021 we founded the Bloom Period Project. Bloom Period is a reproductive health program aimed at combating period poverty by providing schools, colleges and shelters with period products and basic hygiene education. Our classes, designed for pre-menstruators to post-menopausers, can include topics such as human anatomy, body image, how to clean your body and genitalia, and the do’s and don’ts of sexual health and birth control. We donated over 15,000 pads to schools in Dallas, Houston & New Orleans. To learn more about our workshops and product distribution, please contact us.
